SMIPA – a Professional Year Program for Accounting Graduates


What is SMIPA?
SMIPA is the short form for Skilled Migration Internship Program – Accounting, which was initiated by Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and the three Australian accounting professional bodies – CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and the National Institute of Accountants.


Why study SMIPA?
Accounting positions in Australia are in demand. SMIPA provides professional development, under the mentorship of professional accountants, and practical hands-on learning with an emphasis on workplace preparation, communication, participating in teams, providing effective client service, occupation-specific knowledge and skills, and strategies to manage personal career development.


What does SMIPA mean for Skilled Migration?
As a program approved by the DIAC, international students who successfully completed the SMIPA program will be eligible to receive an additional 10 points towards permanent residency under the general skilled migration points test.


Who is eligible to participate in SMIPA?
International students who have completed an Australian Accounting Degrees, have studied in Australia for at least 2 years, and submitted an application for the 485 Skilled Graduate Visa.


What is the duration and fee for SMIPA?
The duration of SMIPA at Top is 45-weeks during which you will undertake a 14 week internship placement. 
The total fees are $12,000 GST inclusive (2 installments) or $11,000 GST inclusive if full payment is made in advance.
